Why choose a used container for sale

Price: Cost is the number one benefit of buying a used shipping container. A second-hand container is cheaper than buying a brand new one. You can expect to pay about half the amount. You’ll get an instant, affordable storage space at a budget-friendly price.

Sustainability: Second-hand shipping containers are more eco-friendly. Reusing an existing container means you’re reducing the demand for new materials and the overall impact that comes with producing new shipping containers.

Customisation: You can always customise your used container to make it look or function better. With a paint job, additional doors, new flooring or custom features, you can easily make your second-hand container your own.

From comfortable site offices to functional garages

Where cost, sustainability and functionality are more important than aesthetic appeal, used shipping containers are the most suitable solution. They are perfect for:

  • Transportation
  • External household storage
  • Temporary on-site offices
  • A garage or workshop
  • A granny flat
  • Pop up shop
  • Garden shed

Buying A Used Shipping Container FAQs

Should I buy a new or used container?

Consider your budget, intended use and ideal container quality. While new containers are in pristine condition and have longer lifespans, used containers are the more budget-friendly option.

If you need a temporary site office or storage space, buying a used shipping container is ideal. Being significantly cheaper than new shipping containers, they are the more cost-effective option and perfect for short-term projects.

What is the typical condition of a used shipping container?

Typically, used shipping containers are those that are no longer in service. This means they have been retired from their original use or purpose.

All used shipping containers will show signs of wear and tear. The life a shipping container has had will determine its condition. Factors such as how and where it was stored, under what weather conditions (covered or out in the open, at sea, on land), how it was handled for loading and unloading and what was stored in the container all play a part in its ultimate condition at retirement.

A used container may have dents, scratches and/or surface rust, faded paint, repair patches, a stained or repaired floor and scuff marks. All our used shipping containers are wind and water-tight (WWT) and are graded according to their condition.

When selecting a used container, it’s helpful to think about what you intend to use the container for when choosing the appropriate grade. If you’re unsure, we’re always on hand to have a chat and discuss your options.

How do I pick the right used container?

Our most popular used shipping containers are 20ft and 40ft standard containers. We also offer 20ft and 40ft high cube containers, as well as side-opening containers for the easiest access. If you’re looking for something else, we stock a range of speciality used containers for sale:

  • Used refrigerated containers.
  • NOR’s (non-operating refrigerated containers).
  • Insulated containers.
  • Mini containers.

You can look at and select any of our second-hand containers by visiting our depot or giving us a call and we’ll send photographs for you to choose from. Let’s make sure we’re on the same page! You can find our used shipping container prices above, or clearance sale shipping containers in our clearance section.

How old are your used shipping containers for sale?

We have plenty of used containers readily available in a variety of sizes and conditions. Second-hand containers are usually categorised by grades — A, B, C and D. Each indicates a different level of appearance, structural integrity and quality. So, you’ll have heaps of choice when it comes to finding the perfect fit.

How much does it cost to deliver a used shipping container?

How much does it cost to deliver a used shipping container?

The cost to get a used shipping container delivered will depend on tow main factors:

  1. the distance from our depot to your delivery address
  2. the type of vehicle required to transport the container – Tilt Tray, Side Loader, or Crane truck (these are also referred to as Hiab which is a lorry mounted crane).

We only use our own experienced drivers who will deliver and position the container exactly where you want it.

Customers can also choose to organise their own transport to pick up their purchased container from our depot.

What is the lifespan of a used shipping container?

What is the lifespan of a used shipping container?

There are a number of factors that determine the remaining lifespan of a used shipping container. These are all based on it’s condition, or ‘grade’ and include things such as:

  • its prior use (what was stored in it, whether it was used on a ship or remained in one place)
  • how many repairs it has had
  • how long it has been in use
  • how many trips it has done

A used shipping container is generally retired from its duties on cargo ships after 10 – 15+ years.

Depending on the container’s condition at this point, it could last for many more years if taken care of.

By comparison, a new shipping container’s lifespan can be upwards of 20+years depending on where it’s stored and what it is being used for.

What used container inspection options do you offer?

All of our used shipping containers are inspected (internally and externally), surveyed and graded as soon as they arrive at our depot and before we offer them for sale.

If needed, repairs are carried out by the qualified personnel at our depot.

It’s best to call ahead of time to make an appointment with us and we’re open Monday to Friday 7.30AM – 5.00PM.
