FAQs

Shipping container hire...how does it work?
Hiring a shipping container is a straightforward process. Once you determine your storage needs, you can choose the right size container and container type from all our containers in our extensive range. Our customer service team is always ready to offer a fast and friendly service if you have any queries. If you’re unfamiliar with what container means or the benefits of container hire, simply give us a call, and we can guide you through the process.

How do new shipping containers differ from used shipping containers?
Firstly, let’s explain the difference. New build, one trip containers are durable, built to last and of the highest quality. They’re called ‘one trip’ because they’ve had only one journey at sea. All new build containers come into the country the same way. The containers are ordered, they get built and then they are shipped to Australia with a one load cargo to make for a viable shipping voyage. When they arrive in the country, the cargo is offloaded and the shipping containers are delivered directly to our depot.

All the other ‘grades’ of shipping containers will have been at sea for many years.

Newly built containers come with a lockbox, internal lashing rings, air vents, easy access doors, minimal exterior dents and timber flooring. They’re in good working condition and guaranteed to be wind and water-tight (WWT), vermin proof and cargo worthy.

Second hand, older or used containers on the other hand, are quite simply, those that have been used multiple times before.

The condition and appearance of a used shipping container will vary depending on the life it has led whilst in use. Used containers are usually wind and water-tight (WWT) and vermin proof but will often have visible signs of wear and tear such as external or internal repairs, dents and scratches or rust. If you’re not too fussed about the aesthetics of your container, then buying a used one can be a cost effective option.

The Sparebox team will help work out which one is best for you and send photos of the containers – inside and out – to help you choose. If you’re in the area, you can also arrange to visit our depot to have a look for yourself, compare our containers and pick your own.

How does hire differ from purchasing a container?
You can hire for just a few dollars a day, while purchasing is better for longer term use as it usually starts at around $2,000 ex GST.

What are the delivery and collection charges associated with shipping containers for hire?
Our delivery and collection charges vary based on location and the number of containers you hire. We strive to maintain transparency in our container hire rates, ensuring there are no hidden costs. For more details on storage container hire and its associated charges, you can reach out to our team.

Can I use these containers for self-storage?
Absolutely! Our shipping containers are an ideal solution for self-storage. Whether you need temporary storage or long-term storage, our containers offer ample storage space. They are also vermin proof, ensuring your belongings stay safe. We offer a variety of storage services tailored to meet your requirements.

Do you offer containers for business storage needs?
Yes, our containers are suitable for a variety of business storage requirements. From furniture to office supplies, our containers are a cost-effective and secure way to store items. Note that we do not offer onsite storage services.

How can I ensure that I get the best value when I hire shipping containers?
By choosing the appropriate container size for your requirements and understanding any potential delivery or transport costs, you can ensure you get the best value. If in doubt, our team can provide insights on how to make the process stress-free, ensuring that container hire is right for you.

What does high cube shipping mean and how is a high cube shipping container different?
High cube shipping containers are taller than the standard containers by about one foot. This design provides more storage space, making them especially useful for taller items or when you frequently change storage capacity. The additional height means more space for your belongings.

Do you offer discounts to community groups?
Yes, we believe in supporting our community. Community groups can contact us directly for special rates and offers related to container hire and other storage services.

Can I pack and load the container at my own pace?
Of course! We understand that everyone has their unique timeline. Once the container is delivered, you can pack and load it at your own pace, ensuring a smooth and convenient experience. This flexibility means you can use the container space as you see fit.

Where can I find shipping containers for rent near me?
